Training as a Plumber can be the gateway to an interesting and profitable career. Plumbing involves working with the pipe work of water or the fuel supply. This includes installing central heating, sanitary appliances and drainage systems, as well as carrying out repairs and maintenance.

Plumbing is an interesting and varied job. On the course we will teach you all the technical skills you will need such as;

• Working safely and effectively with water by isolating water supplies.
• Working with copper pipe work and plastic push-fit components though correct soldering techniques and replacing faulty joints and pipe.
• Installation and maintenance of bathrooms and sanitary equipment by fixing pipe work, leaking sinks, taps, baths and showers.
• Learning health, safety and environmental considerations when plumbing. Servicing and maintaining hot water supplies by bleeding radiators and heating systems and re-filling the system.

• Develop a trade as well as your personal and social skills
• Personal & Social Development Level 1
• Gain qualifications in Functional Skills. English, Maths & ICT
• Ascentis Entry Level 3 Certificate Introduction to the Construction Industry and Level 1 Preparing for employment in the Construction Industry
• Prepare for real work

You will also learn the social and organisation skills that are required when working with other tradesmen such as decorators or electricians and how to deal with customers face-to-face.

There are good job prospects when it comes to a career in Plumbing. You can work on your own, or for a contractor and salaries are generally good for both. There are many varied types of work and you have the opportunity to specialise in specific areas that you’re interested in and enjoy.

You need to be working at Entry 2 or above join the course. We work this out by you completing two short initial assessments on your English & Maths. Also a good level of fitness is useful as plumbing is physical work. A good attitude and willingness to learn are also important.
